Meet Yvonne
I was born in Jamaica, and in my early teens, I migrated to the US. I was then raised in Brooklyn, New York, where I still reside, and loving it.
I have been gifted with two amazing children who, as adults, teach me new ways of approaching and interacting in life.
On returning to college after a hiatus, I became fascinated with the field of public health. I saw it as a means of being a positive influence in creating pathways to being healthier. I pursued and earned my Masters of Public Health degree. During that process and since then, I have been involved in public health education. What I have come to realize is that it is crucially important to focus my programs and workshops on healthier living, with particular emphasis on the benefits of a whole food plant based lifestyle.
Accomplishments
I have been working in Health Education for over 20 years.
I was invited by President Obama, and attended the first Healthcare Summit of his presidency held at the White House in March 2009. I was one of 6 persons representing public health interests chosen to attend.
I have conducted numerous health education workshops with individuals, companies and community groups.
Also I have trained groups of women in adding physical activity into their routine using race walking. Distances and speed varied depending on desires of the trainee, from completing 5K events to marathons (26.2 miles).
